We stopped in Laramie at the Territorial Prison and Frontier Town. The kids liked it, and we all learned a lot. For instance, did you know that Butch Cassidy was from a Mormon family?
We saw the warden's house, which the prisoners built.
The prison looked like a fort, except that the supports for the walls were on the outside instead of the inside.
The kids thought it was fun to get in the wagon used for transporting prisoners.
Good thing I had a digital camera, because everyone wanted their own picture.
The rooms were very tiny for two people to share. Especially the women, who were never allowed out of their cells. The men at least got to get out and eat, do laundry and work.
The guards stood in these cages built into the wall and watched the three levels of cells all day.
The inmates ran a broom factory and made about 420 brooms a day.
The frontier town wasn't much. Because of state budget cuts they didn't have people dressed up and demonstrating things anymore. But they did have some nice displays.
Between Laramie and Cheyenne there is a memorial to President Lincoln.
In Cheyenne we stopped and got ice cream at another Little America.
Our last stop of the day was at Cabelas sporting goods store in Sydney, Nebraska. Our kids love to look at the stuffed (real) animals there. After we looked at the animals, we went and ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant buffet (1$ more that we spent at McDonalds the night before!) We spent the night in a motel in North Platte, Nebraska and looked forward to reaching Missouri the next day.
