Divine Comedy - spoofs of popular songs

Working with the youth has introduced me to several songs that I probably never would have heard otherwise. Some of them I like, and some of them I don't. Recently I was introduced to a comedy group from from BYU called BYU Divine Comedy. They have done some spoofs of popular songs using college life at BYU, and they are pretty funny. I am going to share my favorites below. If you haven't heard the original songs, seen the original videos, or gone to BYU, you may not find them funny...but then again, you might!

This song is a spoof on Katy Perry's "California Gurls" (which several of my Mia Maids loved this summer - my husband and I heard it many times to and from trek) If you aren't familiar with the song, Snoop Dogg the rapper is a guest on it, which explains the guy at the beginning. They call it "Provo, UT Girls"

This song is a spoof of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" They even spoof Joe Jonas, who did a video imitating Beyonce dancing to this song. (Don't ask me why I know this - I work with teenagers, remember?!)

This one is a spoof of Miley Cyrus' song "Party in the USA" They call it "Party by BYUSA"

The singers do a good job copying some of the actions and mannerisms of the singers they are spoofing, as well as parts of the original videos (not that I would ever admit to actually seeing any of these videos of questionable virtue - they are not praiseworthy or of good report :) ) Some of their comedy sketches are pretty funny too. You can see them on You Tube. Alan and I enjoyed their performance of Les Miserables set at BYU.

Halloween 2010

We were able to several fun family activities for Halloween time this year, even though the kids didn't go trick or treating on Halloween. We went to the school carnival (I think it is something like Hideki Matsui)
The kids had fun posing behind some cardboard cutouts.

Emily was a witch for this night...
and Ben and Elisabeth were pirates.

We also went on our annual hay ride at Thistledown Farm
We had fun going through the corn maze...

and the hay maze too!
Benjamin was excited to be a "pumpkin."

It was really nice weather for the hay ride.
The kids talked their dad into getting 9 pumpkins.
I guess that is one way not to make a decision on which pumpkin you like best :)

For Family Home Evening, we carved those pumpkins.
The older girls designed and carved their own pumpkins.
Emily finished hers ( a spider on a moon), but Leilani never did finish carving hers. It just rotted on the front porch, hollowed out and with no face.
Alan helped the younger kids carve their pumpkins.
Elisabeth had a cyclops face...
Benjamin's face was traditional.

The kids were able to dress up for school on Friday, and participate in various activities.
Emily was a Roman girl,
Elisabeth was a witch,
Leilani was a black cat,
and Benjamin was Tigger. He was Tigger at the ward Trunk or Treat on Saturday too.
Elisabeth was still a witch, but she changed hair. Emily decided to be a genie this time.
We decorated our trunk, and passed out lots of candy.

I handed out candy while Alan walked around with the kids. I guess I never did get a picture of Leilani (she was a fairy), but I think Grandpa did. I had a friend snap a picture of me, though, so there was some record of me :)

On Halloween we just stayed home and ate some fun treats that we made. Emily's "graveyard" treat was a hit! It was a fun night, and we have lots of good memories.

Leilani - a study on beam

I have a hard time getting pictures of Leilani at her gymnastic meets, because there is no flash photography allowed. I just need the flash to get the action shots inside. Another problem is that we sit so far away from her events sometimes, that it is impossible to get a picture. A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to have Grandma and Grandpa Bevans attend one of Leilani's meets in Portland. Grandpa brought his camera, and he was able to get some nice shots of Leilani doing her beam routine - even though he complained that they were a bit backlit. (the other events were not in good positions for pictures) So, here are some rare shots of Leilani on the beam.

She took 5th place for that routine. We are glad Grandma and Grandpa were able to come to the meet! It is fun to have some pictures of her competing. :)

Cousins at the Park

There is nothing I like better than messing around taking pictures, so my sister and my kids easily convinced me to walk down to our neighborhood park with them.
The cousins were excited to play together.

And little Ryan tried out all the equipment for the first time :) (Luckily I have a pretty laid back sister, who trusts that I will not harm her child in the picture process. I convinced her to let me take Travis down the slide at Enchanted Forest when he was around a month old, all for the sake of a picture too - but they are some fun pictures to look back on!)
He fit cozily in the swing. He looks asleep, but he wasn't...the sun was just shining in his eyes. :(
All the kids wanted to help Ryan experience the park. His sister helped him slide...
Emily taught him how to lounge under the play structure...

...just like his big brother!
Ryan was a very good sport! (I just know he was having fun!)
They went easy on him at the teeter totter, but then he decided he needed a snack after all that playing.
The fun was over way too soon, but we all had a good time and enjoyed the nice weather! It is nice to have a park so close, and cousins to share it with.
