Sojourn in a Far Away Land - Abraham Lincoln Museum

We spent a day in Springfield, Illinois. We went to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, which I have to say is one of the best museums that I have ever been to.

The areas in the museum were divided by the different periods in Lincoln's life. We were able to go into a log cabin area to learn about Lincoln's life growing up.

We took a picture with Lincoln and his family outside the White House before we went in to learn about his presidency. (no picture taking allowed anywhere inside the exhibits)
They had an area called Mrs. Lincoln's attic, which was all hands on playtime for the kids.
They dressed up and played with trains, canons, dolls and many other things.

This picture is for grandma. We didn't want her to feel the south was left out.
There was a pioneer kitchen area that they could cook and play in.

We went and saw the Illinois state capitol building. It was closed, but we walked around the outside.

Afterwards we went to this park and watched a rehearsal for the Broadway musical "The Civil War." You can see part of the stage behind us. The director invited us to watch the rehearsal, and we loved it. We only stayed for the first act, because Alan had to work the next morning, but we decided to go back and watch the performance the next weekend.
